College student kills himself in Rajkot after losing money in online gambling

A 20-year-old college student killed himself after allegedly losing a significant amount of money through an online gambling app. His body was found hanging at his residence in Gujarat’s Rajkot.
Police recovered a suicide note from the mobile phone of the victim, identified as Krishna Pandit. In the note, Pandit wrote about the devastating impact of gambling addiction.
In the note, Krishna admitted to losing all his money on the app and expressed remorse to his parents. He wrote, “I am solely responsible for my decision. Gambling addiction has left me empty inside”.
He also urged his family to take precautions to protect his younger sister from similar pitfalls.
“Gambling is an extremely bad and dangerous illness which can kill you,” Pandit wrote.
Krishna’s father, who was unaware of his son’s gambling habits, expressed his grief and appealed to other parents to stay vigilant about their children’s financial activities.
“Krishna was intelligent and the pride of our family. We never imagined he could take such a step. I urge the government to impose stricter regulations on such gaming applications to prevent similar tragedies,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Radhika Bharai confirmed that the police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation. She stated, “A suicide note mentioning online gambling has been found, and we are examining the case further. The family is currently in shock, so detailed questioning has not been conducted”.
