    Germany * Circa 1850
This unusual silver needle case is embossed with chevron designs that terminate in a heart on each side. The top has a realistic little acorn terminal that opens and holds a piece of beeswax for waxing sewing threads to make them stronger.
    It has
    the German 13 lothiges mark
    for 812/1000 pure silver.
    It also has t
he unicorn head hallmark for the city of Gmünd (Germany).
The condition is excellent with no dents, splits or other damage and it fits together snugly. The acorn wax holder closes securely and it measures 3 1/8" long.
