Bamboo Stakes or Skewers - Qty. 20 - 13"

Set of 20 bamboo stakes or skewers
I can't figure out what they were originally created for
They were acquired at auction with a lot of mostly martial arts items
They are approximately 13" long and sharpened on both ends
They look hand split and sharpened
All have a stalk node located about 4" from one end - this can't be a coincidence - but why??
